Written and performed by Daniel Bye, with direction and dramaturgy by Sarah Punshon, ‘Story Hunt’ is a unique walking tour of Northampton's many presents: those that have been and those that are yet to come. It will take you on a tour of sights no longer to be seen and let you marvel at monuments yet to be raised.
To produce the tour, Daniel and Sarah will collect stories from library books, museums, archives and by talking to as many locals as they can.
They want to know about the shop your mum used to visit before it got knocked down; the dance hall that’s now unrecognisable; the local hero who deserves to be better known – everything that makes Northampton what it is today.
If you have a story about Northampton, they would love to hear it.
“We need tales of lost and forgotten Northampton, of buildings long since bulldozed, people no longer with us, and events that left no physical trace behind them,” said Daniel. “We’re going to try and get our heads round what Northampton is, was, and could be – and we need a lot of help from locals.”
Local groups are currently being sought to help with this unique production.
“If you are part of a group who will be meeting at any point between 16 and 24 June, and might be interested in chatting about lost and forgotten Northampton, sharing anecdotes or just having a good old gossip we want to know about you,” said John Manning, Producer, Royal & Derngate.
“Dan and Sarah are happy to come along for a chat, or run a workshop in storytelling or creative writing in exchange for stories.”
If you are not part of a group, but have a story to tell, you can get in touch or look out for the Story Hunt pop-up booth in Northampton Market Square on Friday 20 June.
Story Hunt performances will be taking place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 June, departing from Royal & Derngate. Tickets are £6* and can be booked via the Box Office on 01604 624811 or via the website: w
