On Saturday 28 July the 21st century Godiva awakes to a spectacular performance involving dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, pyro technicians, carnivalists and 220 young people. This will take place in University Square, Coventry.

Although all the tickets have been allocated there is still a chance to see Godiva on the day. The Awakening will be broadcast live on the Big Screen in Broadgate for an unticketed audience.

Godiva will also go walkabout in Broadgate before moving into the Cathedral ruins to contemplate the Book of Intent.

The Book has involved 220 young people across the West Midlands who have worked on a project to explore the themes that arise from the Godiva myth. The project is encapsulated in the Book of Intent.

On Sunday 29 July Godiva will then be the focus of Coventry Carnival before she starts her journey to London.

Powered by 100 cyclists propelling the Cyclopedia, the 10 metre high Godiva will progress from Coventry to London to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games after being the focal point of Coventry's Godiva Carnival.

Godiva Awakes has been commissioned through Artists taking the lead, the UK Arts Councils' flagship project for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Jane Hytch, Director, Imagineer Productions said: "After all the days, weeks, months and years of planning, we are so excited that Godiva's Awakening and Journey is nearly here.

"We cannot wait for her to meet the people of Coventry and then take the spirit of the city to London, sharing it with the towns along the way.

"Support from Arts Council England is helping to make sure as many people as possible can share in the wonder and spectacle of Godiva."

Ros Robins, West Midlands Director, Arts Council England, commented:

"This exciting Artists taking the lead project, which the Arts Council funded, is ready for lift-off.  It is so rewarding that such a large number of artists, engineers, adults and young people from all over the West Midlands and beyond are taking part.

"It will be a great spectacle for Coventry and for the towns Godiva visits during her journey to north London.  I wish to congratulate all those who have contributed towards this major artistic commission which will have a legacy long after 2012."

The journey takes in:

Monday 30 July - Rugby
Tuesday 31 July - Northampton (where she will receive her giant-sized boots)
Wednesday 1 August - Milton Keynes
Thursday 2 August - Luton
Friday 3 August - Hatfield
Saturday 4 August - Waltham Abbey
Sunday 5 August - Waltham Forest where Godiva will take part in their carnival and process to the Town Hall for the handover of the Book of Intent and final celebratory performance.
