English Touring Opera has launched a UK tour of Fantastic Mr Fox, a family-friendly opera that features 250 children from across the country.

At each of the venues on the 12-date tour, local school children will be given the opportunity to be involved in the production, joining the cast as fox cubs and a chorus of trees. In total, 250 children will be part of the tour which visits Cheltenham, Cambridge, Exeter, Snape, Norwich, Wolverhampton, Buxton, Cornwall, Belfast, Crawley and Hackney.

A further 750 children from the same schools will be given the opportunity to compile and publish a book called 24 Hours in the Life of a Fox, which will include artwork, a story and songs on a CD insert.

Publicly funded through Arts Council England, English Touring Opera (ETO) tours mid-scale opera to venues across England, particularly to places that would not otherwise have opera productions. Fantastic Mr Fox is part of their spring season, which visits 17 venues across the UK and also features operas by Mozart and Puccini.

The tour started at the Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon last Friday (February 18) and will travel around England, then on to the Perth Festival and the Grand Opera House, Belfast, in May.
