Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisation, Motionhouse, is set to launch a new dance company for children and young people in the West Midlands.
In January 2014, Motionhouse will be setting up Motionhouse Junior, a youth company for amateur dancers aged between 8 and 13 years old.
The launch of Motionhouse Junior will create more opportunities for children and young teenagers in Warwickshire to get involved with the arts through dance.
Motionhouse Junior will run alongside Motionhouse Youth, the established company for amateur dancers aged 14 to 19, which has just been selected for MY (Midlands Youth) Dance Festival on 26 April 2014 at DanceXchange in Birmingham.
Melissa Porter, Relationship Manager, Dance, Arts Council England, said: ‘It is fantastic to see Motionhouse expanding their programme of coaching and workshops. Supporting opportunities for children and young people to get involved with the arts is a priority for Arts Council England. When it launches in January, Motionhouse Junior will give young dancers in the West Midlands the chance to develop their skills and passion for performing.’
Louise Richards, Executive Director of Motionhouse, said: ‘Working with young people has always been at the heart of what we do, teaching alongside the professional theatre and festival shows that we tour around the UK and internationally. More than 6,600 children and young people came along to a range of different workshops that we ran last year, and our large scale community spectacles, like The Voyage in Birmingham city centre last Summer, would not achieve such extraordinary success without the fantastic performances of young amateur performers.’
Motionhouse Junior’s first session will take place on Thursday 9 January from 5.30-6.45pm at the Motionhouse studio in Spencer Yard. For more information, click here.
