A new initiative, Best in Eden, is inviting local people to celebrate the culture of this most rural corner of England - its food, festivals, traditional events, landscape and contemporary artists - through getting involved in organising a huge variety of events and activities under the festival banner of Best in Eden on every day of July and August.

This festival of nearly 200 cultural events and activities will be keeping locals and visitors alike entertained over the summer. Big and established local events sit side by side with smaller, new activities to collectively showcase Eden's vibrant culture.

Best in Eden is not simply an arts festival, it's a cultural celebration that includes open studios, international street arts, contemporary craft and arts workshops, carnival, puppet theatre and music alongside cycle rallies, walks, courses, agricultural shows, food markets and family days.

The festival is being organised by Eden Arts - the local arts development agency for the Eden Valley and one of Arts Council England's regularly funded organisations. Adrian Lochhead, Eden Arts Director, said: 'We've been overwhelmed with the fantastic response from people organising events and running courses and workshops right across the district - all keen to be a part of the festival. What started off as a small idea has grown into a wonderful collective effort.'
