Coventry-based Imagineer Productions will present Godiva Awakes at the Herbert Arts Gallery and Museum, Coventry on 1-2 October.

Godiva Awakes is one of 12 Artists taking the lead commissions forming part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and funded by Arts Council England.

Lady Godiva is returning to Coventry as a 10-metre high moving, breathing puppet, a monument for the modern age. In July 2012, she will awake to a spectacular performance involving dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, pyrotechnicians, carnivalists and young people. Powered by 50 cyclists, on a structure called the Cyclopedia, Godiva will then journey to London to play a part in the London 2012 celebrations. She will be a symbol of justice for the 21^st century, embodying the values of fair play, friendship, respect and courage that are at the heart of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Visitors to the exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum will be able to view plans and prototypes for each element of the project from an animation of the amazing Cyclopedia to sculpted maquettes of Lady Godiva, designs for the stained glass windows in Godiva's chamber and initial designs for Lady Godiva's coat which, in 2012, will carry messages from the region to London.

The exhibition will invite members of the public to join Imagineer Productions and Godiva on their journey to 2012, through signing up to receive regular project up-dates and contributing comments for inclusion in Godiva's coat, and in doing so create a real opportunity for people across the region to get involved with and experience the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
