The general strategic grants programme will be used to realise the priorities set out in Achieving great art for everyone. Specifically, it will aim to achieve those priorities that the Arts Council identifies as not being fully addressed by our National portfolio and other strategic funding.

What we will fund

General strategic grant programme funding will allow organisations to apply to deliver work that contributes to one or more of the Arts Council 2011-15 priorities; this could include for example work around digital innovation or targeting areas with low arts engagement.

‘Gaps’ in priorities will be identified by the Arts Council Plan 2011-15. Organisations will be able to apply for general strategic funding to undertake work that addresses these gaps.

Funding and applications

The programme will be open application and all organisations, not just the National portfolio, will be eligible to apply.

Solicitation

If the Arts Council does not receive applications that address all the gaps identified, we may need to solicit applications to this fund as a last resort. This will be in line with our solicitation policy. We will be open and transparent about when we solicit and will ensure that all solicited and unsolicited applications go through the same assessment and decision making process.
