Wonderful Words Festival

  • Date: 16 June 2008
  • Artform: All, Literature
  • Region: South West

Cornwall Library Service have received a Grants for the art award from the Arts Council for their Wonderful Words Festival, which takes place this September.

The festival is integrated into a year long programme of events to coincide with the National Year of Reading. The festival will look at reading and writing reflecting on migration and journeys, looking at who we are and how we are shaped by our surroundings.

It will explore journeys of all kinds, including those of current migrant workers in Cornwall and Cornish miners who sought work and fortune overseas. There will be an exhibition at the Cornwall Centre in Redruth from the 9th to the 22nd September and another at Callington Library plus a mix of author talks, writing workshops and family activities across the county.

Visiting writers will include Marina Lewycka, Louis de Bernieres, John Siddique, Marion Molteno and James Long and there will be opportunities to hear other writers currently living and working in Cornwall. These include Patrick Gale and D.M. Thomas.

Brochures detailing the full Wonderful Words programme will be available in a few weeks and all events will be listed on the Cornwall Library website
