Taking Part Place Project

  • Date: 29 July 2009
  • Artform: None
  • Area: London

Taking Part Place Project was a project working across five London Boroughs to increase attendance and participation in groups that don’t typically engage with the arts.

The aims of the project were to:

  • bring more art to people at local level
  • offer people the opportunity to participate in high quality arts activities that can enhance their local communities
  • inspire people to get involved in the arts for life
  • help build stronger relationships with London boroughs
  • act as a mechanism for social change, helping to ensure that the arts make an even greater contribution to transforming lives and communities in the capital

The programme saw over 800 people participate in a variety of arts activities across London and reached an audience of over 6000 people through the various activities and events.

Taking Part Place Project was a pilot project on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, delivered in partnership with five London boroughs - Ealing, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Lewisham, Richmond and Sutton. Each was awarded £20,000 to deliver a project in 2008 as part of Taking Part Place Project.
