In September 2009, arts organisation Metal moved into a bespoke centre located at the heart of the community in Southend. The Grade II listed property at Chalkwell Hall offers a flexible shared space for a variety of arts activities and provides accommodation to enable resident artists to live and work there.
Metal is passionate about how artists contribute towards the identity and development of communities that are undergoing major change, and commissions arts projects about issues affecting people’s lives, such as urban regeneration, economic sustainability and environmental change.
Metal has achieved considerable success in its first year in Southend, and its activities have reached over 25,000 people. For more information on Metal visit www.metalculture.com.
