DanceEast, one of the UK’s leading dance organisations, celebrated the launch of its £8.9 million Jerwood DanceHouse with an open-house weekend on 9–11 October 2009.
Following a dancing parade from Ipswich town centre to the new Jerwood DanceHouse on the waterfront, Barbara Follett, Minister for the East of England, cut the ribbon to officially open the new centre. Visitors then took part in dance classes and watched performances in the brand new purpose-built facilities.
DanceEast brings international dance to the east of England, commissioning new work, developing talent and widening the experience of audiences. It has built a reputation for promoting the best in British and international dance, a wide ranging programme of community outreach and education, as well as continued professional development for dance artists.
