The Opera Group is an award-winning, nationally and internationally renowned opera company, specialising in commissioning and producing new operas, merging contemporary and traditional opera styles. The Opera Group aim to produce opera that both aficionados and newcomers alike can enjoy; through vibrant performances that appeal to people regardless of their knowledge of contemporary or popular music.
The Opera Group are one of the country’s most active companies, touring two new productions every year, visiting opera houses, theatres and festivals, and spreading passion for opera to as many people as possible. The Opera Group is based in the South East of England and is Creative Associate at Watford Palace Theatre, Artist in Residence at Oxford Playhouse and works regularly with Anvil Arts Basingstoke and Brighton Festival & Dome. The Opera Group is also resident at King’s College London. The Opera Group were recipients of the Evening Standard Award for Best Musical British Composer Awards, Best Stage Work and have been nominated for countless others for the quality of their productions.

Bow Down - Behind the scenes
The Opera Group will take, Bow Down, a macabre folk tale, originally devised by Sir Harrison Birtwistle to four unique venues in the UK from May to July.
The story told by a Blind Harpist recounts a sinister tale of thwarted desire, unnatural betrayal and violent jealousy. When the Fair Sister is courted by the Suitor, the Dark Sister commits a terrible act of betrayal. As her crime echoes through the land and through the ages, so she receives bloody retribution in the parable's brutal conclusion.
