The New Theatre Royal

The New Theatre Royal is a grade II listed Victorian Matcham theatre. The theatre’s mission is to be a vibrant hub of artistic activity, providing entertainment and education for the community of Portsmouth and beyond.

The theatre has just begun, in April 2013, its capital rebuild in partnership with the University of Portsmouth. It will see the stagehouse, which was destroyed in a fire in 1972, restored and a new creative learning space, a legacy to Anthony Minghella, built with fantastic facilities including film studios and a studio theatre space.
