Sage Gateshead

Sage Gateshead and all aspects of its work regionally, nationally and internationally are managed and programmed by North Music Trust. Sage Gateshead is an international home for music and musical discovery located in the north east. Its local, national and international concert programme runs all year round and incorporates all kinds of music, and its extensive Join In and Make Music programme enables people of every age or ability to become involved in music. The building, designed by Lord Foster on a landmark waterfront site, incorporates outstanding performance spaces of internationally acclaimed acoustic excellence and is one of the UK’s most popular venues for conferences and events.

Conductor Nicholas Collon on Seven Last Words

Ahead of the Seven Last Words concert at Sage Gateshead on Friday 17th May 2013, Nicholas Collon was kind enough to give a conductor's perspective on the concert - and especially on the performance with Northern Sinfonia and Northern Sinfonia Chorus of James MacMillan's intensely moving meditation on the crucifixion, Seven Last Words from the Cross. Anthony Lo Giudice talks about his choreography and inspiration for 'Distant Light'.

At the Northern Sinfonia 'Distant Light' concert on 29th March 2013, there will be a special post concert event - the Orchestra will perform the Peteris Vasks Violin Concerto 'Distant Light' once more , with the addition of a stunningly choreographed dance performance created by choreographer Anthony Lo Giudice and performed by four dancers - Molly Hodkinson (lead), Rachel Jean Birch, Shelley Brettle and Kristin Kelly Abbot. We caught up with Anthony ahead of this unique performance, at rehearsals in Hall One at The Sage Gateshead.

Youth Folk Explosion Day - Thursday 12th April

A showcase of fantastic music by professional and emerging young musicians, many coming from our own Young Musicians Programme. Including a performance of Fiddles on Tyne, a commission by Kathryn Tickell featuring string players from 4 years of age of all ages and abilities. The Young Musicians Programme presented an afternoon of wrap around folk activity to warmly welcome the visiting National Youth Orchestra in Hall One, an orchestral music performance inspired by folk.

On Friday 18th May, for the first time The Sage Gateshead held an all-new launch evening to introduce the whole of their next classical season (2012/13) in one go. The new season will include Brahms and Schumann symphony cycles, with Music Director Thomas Zehetmair, visiting orchestras, Classical FM Concert Series, the eclectic Late Mix and much more.
