Run. Keep running. You're doing the right thing. Lay low. Head down.
Don't look back. Just keep running.
And whatever you do, don't tread on the cracks.

Audiences will have a unique, intimate experience as they follow the story through the streets of York, watching the events unfold in and around some of York's landmark buildings whilst listening in to the characters' conversations and seeing the events unfold. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe
Produced by Pilot Theatre and York Theatre Royal
Adapted for the Stage by Roy Williams OBE
Directed by Marcus Romer
Working with patron Roy Williams, award winning company Pilot Theatre bring this searing text of class and the criminal justice system to the stage. This stunning new production, set in Britain's Olympic Year 2012, exposes the beating heart of a nation, still broken and still divided across class lines.
A long distance race in real time. We follow one runner, alone with his thoughts, becoming part of his journey as his steady running rhythm transports him over a harsh, frost bitten earth. Colin Smith is defiant. He is a young rebel inhabiting the no man's land of detention centres and young offenders institutes.
Why, for whom and for what is he running?
Adapted by BAFTA winning and Olivier Award nominated playwright Roy Williams (Sucker Punch, Fallout, Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads), this gritty adaptation of Alan Sillitoe's classic text hits the ground running; unlocking the biting realism of the original book while placing the drama firmly in a contemporary frame.

Shift Happens: ALT Shift [Arts | Learning | Technology] will be happening again on 5th & 6th July 2010
http://www.pilot-theatre.com/redesign/default.asp?idno=17061
In our awareness of being increasingly a part of a global community, Pilot Theatre continues to embrace the opportunities presented by digital technologies for connection, engagement and distribution.
The first Shift Happens conference in 2008 was a watershed event for the industry, we had speakers from the New York Met Opera and their live HD work as well as live links with Silicon Valley.
This was followed with our Shift Happens 2.0 event in 2009, where we had speakers including Charles Leadbeater, Andy Hobsbawm, Lyn Gardner, Bill Thompson and DK, again with live links to Australia with Kate Foy and San Francisco with Janice Fraser.
We are delighted to be developing this through an extended third event 5th-6th July 2010.
Where our speaker list already includes Sir Ken Robinson (World renowned expert on Creativity and author of The Element and Out of our minds) Jonathan Harris (We Feel Fine and Sputnik), Alice Greenwald (Museum Director 911 Memorial Museum NYC), David Sabel (Head of Digital Media, National Theatre), DK (Mediasnackers) and many more in the pipeline.
