Hoot Music and Dance

Hoot was founded in 2002, but its origins lie in the 1990s, when the successful commissioning of creative arts projects in mental health cases necessitated a permanent organisation to provide such services in Kirklees.

Hoot has played an important role in establishing the therapeutic credibility of arts-based treatment since its formation, producing reports to describe the positive impact of their projects on the mental health and wellbeing of participants in their projects.

It has seen its ability to provide more projects expand as it has cemented its credibility, receiving funding from a number of organisations to complete more projects in communities with mental health concerns. The organisation focuses on expression through physical movement and dance, running taster sessions, participative workshops and open groups incorporating dance in a number of styles and, on occasion, live music.
