Darkness - 2 November 2012 - Peak Cavern - Scene 2

Youth Arts Network High Peak came together again for their second collaboration. They worked with themes of 'trapped', 'lost and found' and the performance takes its name from the Byron poem, 'Darkness'. On 2nd November three audiences were taken through the chambers of Peak Cavern, led through a dystopic world of uncertainty, panic and thoughts of the future. Scene 2 features mainly young people from the Fairfield Dreamscheme, finishing with the Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre group from Buxton Opera House. In a change of tone, Scene 2 follows the personal story of Eve who has gone missing in mysterious circumstances Her friends question where, why and how she has gone and search for clues to her whereabouts - although not everyone is taking the disappearance seriously...

Darkness - 2 November 2012 - Peak Cavern - Scene 1

Youth Arts Network High Peak came together again for their second collaboration. They worked with themes of 'trapped', 'lost and found' and the performance takes its name from the Byron poem, 'Darkness'. On 2nd November three audiences were taken through the chambers of Peak Cavern, led through a dystopic world of uncertainty, panic and thoughts of the future. Scene 1 features the Kaleidoscope Youth Theatre group from Buxton Opera House and one member of Fairfield Dreamscheme. Inspired by the poem, Darkness, Scene 1 uses physical theatre and performance art techniques to convey the emotions and visual imagery of "the year without summer" (2012). The poem begins with its famous and ambiguous opening line "I had a dream, which was not all a dream". What follows is a collection of images portraying the end of the world through a series of natural, social and supernatural events. "The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars Did wander darkling in the eternal space"
