The Gala Theatre, a purpose-built £15m arts centre, forms the core of Durham’s arts programme. The venue sits on the banks of the river Wear in the heart of Durham and houses a state-of-the-art modern theatre, spacious and comfortable café-bar, two cinema screens and outstanding conference facilities.
Gala offers an enviable live arts and cultural programme, featuring leading UK theatre companies, comedians, musicians and dance performers; as well as a cinema screening the latest blockbusters alongside independent and classic films. Gala also has dedicated in-house directorial staff, who are beginning to develop theatrical productions for the theatre.
