Forward Arts Foundation spearheads many major arts initiatives in the UK. Now in its seventh year, National Poetry Day was conceived by William Sieghart of FAF and aims to inflame national interest in poetry through a programme of free national events for people of all ages. At the same time, The Foundation holds its Forward Prizes for Poetry, which recognises the work of both established writers and emerging talent.
FAF also organises Big Arts Week, a 2002 scheme to develop the next generation of young artists by enlisting professional creatives to collaborate with local schools on a project. It also launched Winning Words, a poetry initiative to coincide with the London 2012 Olympic Games which invites people to contribute poetry that reflects the values of the games; selected work will adorn shared spaces in the athlete’s village.
