Ex Cathedra

Ex Cathedra is a professional choir based in Birmingham. The choir commissions new works and performs contemporary work in the West Midlands, on tour and in recordings. A growing programme of work in schools and training for young people runs alongside the performances.

Ex Cathedra and G4S: Singing Medicine at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital

Ex Cathedra has partnered with G4S to bring singing to children at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, through our project Singing Medicine. G4S is the provider of facilities management services at the hospital has donated £5,000 for the choir so that children in the hospital for long or extended periods can experience the wide ranging benefits of singing through singing games. Marie Fel was a diva of the 18th century, famous across Paris for her unrivalled artistry and her unconventional lifestyle. In this short film, Jeffrey Skidmore and soprano Carolyn Sampson talk about our project and the great music from the French Baroque that was written for Marie Fel.

A Time to Sing

An insight into life as a freelance professional singer. Made for the IKON Gallery's "The Voice and the Lens" Autumn Almanac 2012, filmmaker Amritpal Sembhi spent time with Ashley Turnell, a member of Ex Cathedra, culminating in his participation in our A Time to Dance concert at Town Hall, Birmingham on Friday 12 October.
