    Phil Robson's Six String and The Beat

    The Mook - Phil Robson Phil Robson; guitar, Jenny May-Logan, Emma Smith; violins, Naomi Fairhurst; viola, Kate Short; cello, Peter Herbert: bass, Gene Calderazzo; drums This ensemble and the music Phil wrote for its debut are the result of Phil's third Derby Jazz commission and a relationship that goes back to his days in the city. As with other commissions Phil used the opportunity to leap into the unknown. Since March, Phil has written more music for the band and recorded and album which was released on the Babel Label in March 2008.

    Tom Cawley's Curios

    Tom Cawley; Piano, Sam Burgess; Bass, Joshua Blackmore; Drums Both Tom Cawley and Joshua Blackmore are from Derby but they met in London where Tom was one of Josh's tutors at the Royal Academy of Music. Curios' first CD "Hidden" was nominated as Album of the Year in the 2007 BBC Jazz Awards.

    Wlat Shaw; Percussion, Bruce Coates, Lol Coxhil, Paul Dunmall, Oli Mathews; Saxes, Corey Mwamba; Vibes, Mike Hurley; piano, John Samsworth; guitar, Rocco Francelli; Accordion, Graham Foster; Stick, Trevor Lines; bass, Mark Sanders; drums. Walt Shaw brought together Lol Coxhil with improvers from the East and West Midlands for this unique session of improvisations.

    Joshua Blackmore; Drums, Chris Montague; Electric guitar; Kit Downes; Fender Rhodes Before leaving Derby to study in London, Joshua had worked with Alan Barnes through a Derby Jazz artist development project. Still studying at the Royal Academy of Music, he is working regularly with TOm Cawley and Dave O'Higgins.
