Barnsley Civic Enterprise Ltd

The Civic, Barnsley showcases high quality performances and exhibitions not usually associated with a centre of its size or regional location. As a proud supporter of the arts in south Yorkshire, the Civic is instrumental in bringing world-class touring theatre, music and arts groups to Barnsley en route to larger UK cultural centres.

Originally the site of a public hall for the people of Barnsley housing most of the town’s most important institution, it has a long association with education and culture, acting as the town’s college, its library, and as a formative cinema at various stages during the twentieth century. It is a tradition continued by the civic, which contains a large auditorium, accommodating the best in UK theatre, dance, comedy and music; and a cinema devoted to screening independent and classic regional films.
