Anvil Press Poetry

Anvil Press is the oldest independent specialist poetry publisher in the UK. Founded in 1968 by Peter Jay, it grew from a poetry magazine he edited and published as a student. Anvil was founded to publish new poetry in English and in translation, both contemporary and classic. Their translations are by poets or poet-translators: the quality of the work is the decisive factor. Anvil continues to remain small as they believe it is the strongest guarantee of maintaining high standards in editorial and production quality. Anvil see real poetry as the unpredictable and undefinable art of language and imagination.
