East Whitby C.P. School - Whitby North Yorkshire

East Whitby Community Primary School was established as a mixed community school in 1950, serving the east side of the town. The school is in a designated social priority area and is ranked as the 10th highest in need, out of 330 primary schools in North Yorkshire. The school has presently on roll 170 pupils aged 3 to 11 years. The nearest theatre, Whitby Spa and Pannett Park Art Gallery are approx. 3 miles away. The majority of pupils have limited experience of the arts and the school tries to provide through a broad and balanced curriculum, initiatives and partnerships, experiences otherwise unavailable.

The school has an ongoing policy of provision in all aspects of art and design, dance, drama and music. Activities and opportunities are in both school-time and before and after school, including the holidays.

All pupils, regardless of social, sensory, physical or educational need, have equal access to all activities.

There is a high level of staffing, pupil-teacher ratio, with very experienced and qualified staff. The school also has good partnerships with local craftsmen and artists. Partners come in to work alongside pupils and pupils visit studios and workshops.
