The Arts Council is currently undertaking research to assess the potential impact of the recession on the arts and on our regularly funded organisations in particular. The findings will inform our case to government in the next spending review.

In addition, in 2009/10 the Arts Council will begin a more in-depth programme of research to explore the role of public investment in the creative economy. The research will examine what public investment enables organisations to do that they couldn’t do otherwise. It will analyse the opportunities for publicly funded arts organisations to generate income from other sources, and how funders can build their capacity to make the most of these opportunities. Finally, it will assess the strengths and limitations of different funding and investment mechanisms for achieving public value outcomes.
